Sam’s Town was in a sense the bands deceleration that they had real staying power after their hugely successful debut and grows on me more and more with every listen. For Reasons Unknown has excellent instrumentation and Bones shows off how much the band were willing to stretch themselves. When You Were Young is incredibly catchy and has become one of their most well known and well loved song for good reason. However with a more gritty and darker sound the album captivated listeners as the band proved they were willing to experiment and evolve their sound. With more of a classic rock vibe than their debut there was every chance the success of they were enjoying could have been brought to a close. Out of all their albums Sam’s Town deviates the most from what someone would expect from a Killers release and I’ve released more and more just how big a risk this album was for the band. However after going back to it more and more it finally clicked as to why this album is so popular among fans. As I mentioned in my review initially I wasn’t a big fan of the album and I had I made this list back then I would have likely places this album in last. So as I said the hardest choice I made when doing this ranking was between the 4th and 3rd place and in the end I decided to place Sam’s Town at number 3. However unlike Day & Age where the lesser moments stand out more on Wonderful Wonderful the moments that don’t work as well aren’t nearly as noticeable and certainly don’t detract from the album.

It’s very possible that with time this album could climb its way further up the ranking however the reason I decided to place it in the 4th position is that similar to Day & Age the album can be overly ambitious at times and whenever something new is tried for every time it works really well there are other times it falls flat. Tracks like Rut and Tyson vs Douglas are among the notable stand out moments of the record and the singles The Man and Run For Cover are great songs with incredibly catchy hooks and plenty of staying power. I do like how even this far into their career and with tensions in the band they still came out with an album that tries a lot of new directions. A choice that may be surprising if anyone read my review for it as I gave it plenty of praise. But after considerable thought I decided to place Wonderful Wonderful in the 4th place position. In fact I’ll probably change my mind about this choice once it’s been posted, then change my mind back again the next day. The hardest choice I had to make when putting this list together was the choice between 3 and 4. Overall I still like this album but a lack of focus and trying way too much all at once for me brings this album into the last place position.

Also based solely on the music it’s definitely got some really upbeat tracks that would work great in a party playlist with tracks like Spaceman and Human. It may seem like I’m being harsh on this album but I don’t mean too as like I said there’s plenty of good songs, tracks like A Dustland Fairytale and Losing Touch are among my favourite Killers tracks. I admire the band for trying so many new styles and sounds on this album but it comes across as a bit of a mess. Parts of it work really well while others feel out of place and miss the mark. With all that said let’s begin the ranking…Īs I mentioned with my review for this album it’s hard to get a general feeling overall for this album.

Also when I start my next series of discography reviews for whichever band or artist I chose I’ll rank their albums as well. That said my ranking of these albums will probably be different than your ranking so if an album you like I’ve put near the bottom just know that doesn’t mean I dislike the album at all.

They’re one of the few bands I like that I can say with complete confidence that they don’t have a single bad album. Obviously this should go without saying but The Killers are one of my favourite bands and I honestly like all of their albums to some extent. So to round up my discography reviews for The Killers I’ve decided to rank all their albums (not counting Sawdust as that was a compilation album) starting with my least favourite and building up to my favourite.
